Larry “Gator” Rivers, a former member of the Harlem Globetrotters and District 2 Commissioner for the Chatham County Commission, passed away on Saturday morning, according to Chatham County Chairman Chester Ellis.
When contacted via phone on Saturday, Ellis stated that he was visiting Rivers’ family. Ellis claimed Rivers’ death was caused by disease, which is also why he had recently missed county commission sessions. Ellis acknowledged that Rivers had been battling cancer.
